Fan’s first herding class

We went to Karin de Haard today for Fans firstherding class. We’ve had a steady drizzle during the drive over, but once we reached the meadow the weather cleared. We even had a few precious rays of sunshine at the end.

Fan has obviously been at the sheep a couple of times before, but she’s never had a training before. Since we are only beginners ourselves it seemed like a good idea to start off on the right foot with a trainer who knew what she was doing.
Fan turns out to be, as we well knew, a natural. She works with ease and wont be distracted by anything. Even in a tough situation (sheep stuck behind some wood) she goes onward with a gentle but firm pressure. A lovely dog to work with!
A few points of attention. She really likes to work on the come bye and will choose this side over the away whenever she can. We will train on this the coming weeks.
Fan also turns out to be a real daddy’s girl. She even brought the sheep back to Lute when Karin was working with her. “I work for Daddy!”
We are real proud of our little munchkin.

Video’s of her first class are on Fan’s video page.

At the end of the day I also had the chance for a quick cuddle with Mate. Man, I love that dog!
